So I've spent the last week offline - for some reason my computer has timed out on everything. I could get to gmail by using the html version, and even managed to get a couple of messages out, but no blogs or anything like that. Tonight a friend brought over a tiny baby laptop (it says 'ASPIREone' on it, it's about 7"x10" and the keyboard is way smaller than my fingers!) and I'm so glad to be able to get back online again! I figured I should let people know why I've been so quiet....

I'm so grateful to loree for giving me a Kindle, which has kept me from total withdrawal - I've been enjoying some very long fanfic (I'll try to pull together some recs) and she remains my personal goddess.

Other news - my claim for Social Security Disability has been approved and I will be getting gubmint chex as soon as (yes, really) I prove I'm a citizen. It's a little complicated, since I was born in Germany, but I'm working on it and am much encouraged by the promise of an income sometime soon.

I'm so far behind here I may never catch up - please let me know if I've missed something important!

Oh, honey, that date is etched in my mind like stone - I've been counting the days!!! But I do appreciate your recognizing the importance of it, and reminding me anyhow!

I'd been thinking about it for a while, since the whole getting-to-work-and-getting-home-again process was using so many of my few remaining spoons, so when I got fired and no longer had the work-based insurance to motivate me, and knew there was no chance of finding another job in the condition I'm in, I figured it was time to bite the bullet and go for it. It was almost a surprise to be accepted first time around, as I'd been told that most people are turned down routinely on first application, and have to go back over and over (and with a lawyer) to get through it. I'm so relieved it went smoothly and I passed muster first time around. (The Social Security doctor who evaluated me had one main question - why I'd waited so long to apply.)

I'm so glad you've been approved! I know disability isn't much (I'm in the middle of applying for it, too), but I love the fact that if I get it, it'll just appear in my bank account, reliably, month after month after month.

Re missing something on the internet -- take advantage of the fact you've been gone to step quietly away, and maybe not come back fro another week. There's been a VVC wank of literally thousands of posts, and it has saddened me mightly. You're honestly better off getting the summary when it's all done, and not living through seeing people you've always liked saying horrible things about other people you've always liked.

Thank you - It's a huge relief. Luckily I had enough saved to keep going on, but being without any income at all is a definite strain.

And yes, I can see that it was a good week to be absent. I was so sorry to see you'll be missing VVC - or should I say VVC will be missing you, since there are more of them feeling the loss! But hopefully we'll both be able to make it to Escapade, and I think seperis has a good idea we could support in doing a panel on warnings.
